A wound is any injury that damages the skin or the tissues beneath it. The skin normally forms a physical barrier that helps protect the body, retain moisture and limit the entry of environmental material and microorganisms. Once this barrier has been broken, appropriate wound care is important to create the best possible conditions for repair. Damage to the skin barrier can have a variety of different causes, including trauma, overgrooming, operations and burns. Should you notice any changes in your pets skin, please speak to your vet.

VETSALVE® provides topical skin support through an oil-based formulation containing Norwegian spruce resin, which can support the natural systems that control the skin barrier in dogs and cats. The product creates an oily layer on the skin surface, which does not dissolve in any excess fluid and only a small amount is required, to cover a large area.

Your vet will be able to recommend the appropriate management for your pet. This may involve medication, bandages and other supportive care, depending on the type and location of your pet's skin issue.

VETSALVE® should be applied using the following steps or as recommended by your veterinary surgeon: • Clip the hair around the area then clean the area • Apply sparingly (1-2mm) directly onto the affected area and apply a breathable dressing to the area if required • Apply one to two times daily A burn or wound may have exudate, which is often higher in the beginning of the healing process and reduces over time. Once the amount of moist exudate reduces, VETSALVE® can be applied once every other day.
