COATEX®
COATEX® is a skin and coat supplement for dogs and cats to help maintain healthy skin and coat condition. It contains a specific blend of omega 3 and omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), alongside key vitamins A, D and E.
COATEX®

COATEX® provides a balanced combination of Omega 3 and Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), along with vitamins to support skin and coat health in dogs and cats.
The formulation contains Omega 6 fatty acid linoleic acid (LA) to help support the skin barrier to retain moisture in cases of dry skin, along with Omega 3 DHA and EPA from fish oil to support skin cell membranes.
COATEX® also uniquely contains the Omega 6 gamma linolenic acid (GLA) from borage oil to help support the natural systems that maintain healthy skin function, which can be altered in cases of sensitive or itchy skin.
COATEX® EFA is an oil product available in an airless pump to protect the ingredients, or blister packed capsules to ensure freshness. Having the choice of a pump or capsules helps make feeding as easy as possible, for both dogs and cats.
Pack Size: COATEX® EFAs for Dogs and Cats is available in three pack sizes:
• Liquid pump 65ml
• Liquid pump 150ml
• Capsules in packs of 240 with 4 inner boxes of 60 soft gel capsules
Information on Skin Health
The skin is the biggest and one of the most complex organs in the body, acting as a protective outer barrier between the animal and its environment. The outermost portion of the skin contains flattened skin cells surrounded by fatty acid lipid material called ceramides. This structure is often compared with a brick wall: the skin cells form the bricks, while the surrounding lipids act like mortar holding the barrier together. Linoleic acid is used in the formation of specialised skin ceramides that help maintain the structure and moisture-retaining function of the skin barrier. Sometimes skin can become irritated by environmental allergies, adverse food reactions, bacterial infection, fleas, yeast overgrowth or abnormal immune responses. This can lead to itching, redness, hair loss, ear problems, dull coat, dry skin or dandruff. If you notice changes to your pets skin health, including itching, licking, redness, hair loss and shaking the ears, we recommend talking to your veterinarian.
How can COATEX® help my pet?
COATEX® contains a specfic combination of Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids (EFAs) with the important skin supporting vitamins A, D and E, to support skin and coat health. The ingredients in COATEX® help to nourish the skin and maintain the skin’s protective barrier. Just a small amount of COATEX® each day can help with skin dryness, support the skin’s immune system and help with skin irritation. It is recommended to feed essential fatty acids (EFAs) for at least 4-8 weeks, to support your pet's skin.
Why does my vet recommend COATEX®?
Essential fatty acid supplements differ in their oil sources, fatty acid concentrations, antioxidant protection and method of administration. COATEX® provides a range of both Omega 6 and Omega 3 EFA’s with antioxidant protection in an airless delivery method, so the active ingredients do not get oxidised and deactivated. • Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) - Omega 6 fatty acid found in high concentration in borage oil. GLA supports normal lipid-signalling and immune response pathways to help in cases of sensitive or itchy skin. • Linoleic acid (LA) - Omega 6 fatty acid that is an important component of the lipids and ceramide layers within the outer skin, supporting skin barrier structure and moisture retention. • EPA and DHA - Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oil that support the body’s normal regulation of immune pathways and skin cell membrane structure. EPA and DHA are included alongside GLA and LA, rather than relying on a single EFA source. • Vitamin E - Antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes and essential fatty acids from oxidative stress. • Vitamin A and D3 - Support normal skin cell growth, differentiation and skin-cell turnover. COATEX® contains the right blend of fatty acids, to help with skin health. Your vet may recommend it, alongside other options, such as diet changes, shampoos and pharmaceuticals, to help provide full support for your pets skin and coat. There are lots of different supplements available, however it is important to trust your veterinary surgeon’s advice on which one is right for your pet and why. At VetPlus, animals deserve the best. This is why we always produce the best products for the pet, from the best possible ingredients in our state-of-the-art UK facility. As a result, COATEX® is used by vets in many countries globally.
How does COATEX® taste?
COATEX® has no added flavouring, so it tastes of fish, as the Omega 3 EFAs are sourced from fish oil.
What else can help?
Your vet will be able to recommend the appropriate support for your pet. Every pet is different, so it is important to find the right management for the individual. This may involve diet changes, topical products, certain medications and other supportive care.
