Information on Respiratory Health

Cat flu is a viral infection caused by either the herpes virus or the calici virus, or a combination of the two. Both can look very similar and are usually managed in the same way. It is also very common for cats with cat flu to get secondary bacterial infections, which can make them more unwell. Congestion can reduce a cat’s ability to smell food. Because smell is an important part of feline appetite, cats with blocked nasal passages may become reluctant to eat even when they would otherwise be hungry. Sometimes cats can experience recurring respiratory issues with a runny nose or runny eyes during periods of stress or illness. Veterinary advice is recommended if your cat shows symptoms such as: • Sneezing • Runny or swollen eyes • Discharge from the nose • Noisy breathing • Reduced appetite • Lethargy • Ulcers in the mouth If you have any concerns that your pets respiratory health has changed, speak to your vet practice for further advice.

How can FLUMAX® support my pet?

FLUMAX® provides a combination of nutrients intended to support the respiratory tract, normal immune function, energy metabolism and general nutritional status. Cats with respiratory problems may eat less because of congestion, mouth discomfort, fever or reduced energy. FLUMAX® provides selected amino acids, vitamins, minerals and plant extracts in a concentrated, palatable paste. This can be useful when a cat would benefit from additional nutritional support during its recovery. FLUMAX® can be used in the short or long term, to help maintain a healthy respiratory system. The ingredients in the product can help support the cat during their recovery or times of stress, where additional respiratory support may be required.

Why does my vet recommend FLUMAX®?

Respiratory supplements for cats differ in their ingredients, palatability and intended use. FLUMAX® combines multiple nutritional ingredients in one paste that can help support the cats immune and respiratory systems, and appetite. • L-Lysine - an essential amino acid for cats to help support tissue health and normal protein synthesis. • B Vitamins - stimulates the appetite and supports energy metabolism. • Cranberry and Pomegranate - contains antioxidants to help support the body’s normal systems for managing oxidative stress in times of viral and secondary bacterial infection. • Pelargonium Sidoides - aids natural respiratory tract defence mechanisms. • Zinc - a mineral antioxidant to support the immune system and tissue integrity lining the respiratory tract. There are lots of different supplements available, however it is important to trust your veterinary surgeon’s advice on which one is right for your pet and why. At VetPlus, animals deserve the best. This is why we always produce the best products for the pet, from the best possible ingredients in our state-of-the-art UK facility. As a result, FLUMAX® is used by vets in many countries globally.

How does FLUMAX®  taste?

FLUMAX® has a tasty pork liver and cat nip flavouring, making it highly palatable.

What else can help?

At home, it is helpful to keep the eyes and nostrils clear of discharge, by gently wiping with a damp cotton ball. Try to tempt your cat to eat with tasty, soft food and monitor their drinking, to ensure they are staying hydrated. In some cases, your vet may even recommend hospitalising your cat, for more intensive care.

How to give FLUMAX®

FLUMAX® paste can be given directly or mixed with food. One full pump provides approximately 1.5 ml. • Kitten - 1 pump twice daily (3 ml daily) • Adult cat - 2 pumps twice daily (6 ml daily) Give one administration in the morning and one in the evening and continue as advised by your veterinary surgeon.
