The pancreas is an organ located close to the stomach and small intestine. It has several important functions, including producing digestive enzymes. • Lipase helps break dietary fats down into smaller components that can be absorbed through the intestinal wall. • Amylase helps digest starches and other carbohydrates. • Protease helps break dietary proteins down into smaller peptides and amino acids. Normally, these enzymes are released into the small intestine when food is eaten. If the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, food cannot be digested and absorbed normally, which can lead to maldigestion and poor nutrient absorption. Pancreatic issues can can cause problems for pets and supporting proper nutrient absorption may be advised by your veterinary surgeon.

LYPEX® provides the three main groups of pancreatic digestive enzymes: • Lipase for dietary fats • Amylase for carbohydrates • Protease for proteins The enzyme-containing micro-pellets are mixed with the animal’s meals. Once they pass from the stomach into the small intestine, the enteric coating dissolves and releases the enzymes close to the area where digestion normally occurs. Pancreatic enzyme replacement can help support digestion of fats, proteins and carbohydrates, absorption of nutrients from food, improved stool quality and maintenance or recovery of bodyweight.

Pancreatic enzyme products can differ in their enzyme concentrations, formulation and the way the enzymes are protected before reaching the small intestine. It is important that the enzyme product is manufactured and tested for veterinary use, not human use. LYPEX® is a veterinary formulated product containing concentrated lipase, amylase and protease in individually enteric-coated micro-pellets. Each capsule contains 30,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase, as fat digestion is often particularly affected in animals with pancreatic issues. In LYPEX®, the purified and concentrated enzymes are made into small pellets, with each pellet individually enteric coated to protect them until needed in the digestive tract. LYPEX® is available only under veterinary direction in New Zealand.

LYPEX® has no added flavouring. The capsules should be opened and the granules inside mixed in with each meal, at the recommended feeding amount.

Alongside pancreatic enzyme supplementation, your veterinary surgeon may recommend other medications and supportive treatments if your dogs or cats has pancreatic issues. Body weight may be monitored and vitamin B supplements may be advised.

The contents of the capsule should be sprinkled on food. Do not give capsules whole. Feed twice daily. The total daily dose should be divided equally between feeds. • Dogs and Cats under 10kg - One capsule per day • Dogs over 10kg - Two capsules per day The level may be adjusted as advised by your veterinary surgeon.
